Copyright and Music Usage on IRIAM
On IRIAM, you are permitted to perform a cappella, play an instrument, or perform a song while playing an instrument (e.g., singing and playing guitar) if you have obtained permission from the copyright holder.
Using Sound Recordings in Your Streams
When using sound recordings in your streams (e.g., "singing over a recording" including karaoke tracks, or as background music), you must secure permission from the performing artist(s), record producer(s), and other neighboring rights holders yourself. It is crucial to verify that you have obtained all necessary permissions before using music in this manner for "singing over a recording" streams or as background music.
Music Usage with Works Managed by ASCAP, BMI, and SOCAN
For musical works managed by ASCAP, BMI, and SOCAN, you may perform them a cappella, play an instrument, or perform a song while playing an instrument by submitting a usage report through the app.
Even for works not managed by them, you may perform them a cappella, play an instrument, or perform a song while playing an instrument if you have obtained permission directly from the copyright holder.
Regardless of whether they manage the rights to a song, if you use a sound recording in your stream (e.g., "singing over a recording" including karaoke tracks, or as background music), you are responsible for obtaining permission from the performing artist(s), record producer(s), and other neighboring rights holders. Please ensure you have secured all necessary permissions before using music in this way.
If you use a song (sound recording) for which you have obtained permission from the performing artist(s) and record producer(s), and the copyright holder of that song is ASCAP, BMI, or SOCAN, please submit a usage report.
Please note: IRIAM pays the licensing fees for works managed by them, allowing streamers to use them free of charge.
